Beginnings

"That is all I have to report."

It wasn't.

"So you heard nothing of an uprising," my father asked him.

"No sir."

He had.

"No I am to assume the rumors are false," my father was skeptical but he didn't have what I had.

"Rumors are just that," the messenger bowed low to my father and took his leave not turning his back until beyond the doorway as was custom. Never turn your back on the silver lord. He'd either be insulted, or stab it.

I was the exception to that. "Are you done?" I sighed and got to my feet and was already beginning to leave the throne room, no wait it was the 'office.'

"You have learned nothing again have you Gage," he didn't look at me when he spoke and I didn't need to turn on him to know this.

"What is there to learn?"

"How to up where I leave off."

"Oh father, you and I know you don't plan to die and if you did I wouldn't take over for you," I turned to flash him a grin and then stormed out. I would be so valuable to him if he would listen, but no one would, what was the value of knowing the truth when I couldn't convince anyone of it.
